New York singer-songwriter Scout Paré-Phillips has shared her powerful new single, ‘Claw’, the first taste of her upcoming third solo album, Lupine Daughter.
Previously known as one half of post-punk country outfit The Sterling Sisters and for her work alongside Jack White, Scout delivers one of her most personal releases yet. Written while processing a lupus diagnosis and the loss of her father, ‘Claw’ channels themes of resilience and perseverance through a rich blend of baritone guitar, cello, pedal steel and drums.
The accompanying video, inspired by Scout’s background in photography, uses a series of still images to explore the contrast between recovery and performance.
Reuniting with longtime collaborators George Cessna and Eric Paltell, Scout sets the tone for what promises to be a compelling new chapter.
‘Claw’ is out now.
