Solène Laurence has been writing the 17 Tall EP since the age of 16 and now three years later it has come together.
Upon looking back it’s clear that this music was written unknowingly about mirrored experiences, the same experiences every teenager has, growing out of things, and leaving them behind.
Whether that be relationships, friendships, or that need to get the last word in, it’s so clear now that 16 year old Solène needed the cathartic release or writing to overcome the first real complex feelings of leaving things behind, a brand new experience for a naive teenage girl.
She released her first single lined above at 18 and now at 19 follows up with her EP.
‘Punch Line’ features a uplifting and vibrant arrangement, that leads us to the moving Irish vocal lilts of Solène Laurence as she conjures up this beautiful and heartfelt track.
Solène likes to think that her music bridges that gap between introspective meaningful folk and those catchy hooks of pop.
It is truly something her audience seems to have responded to, as only a month after my debut, she headlined alone at her very own sold out solo show, somehow filling the room with wonderful supportive people who resonated with my music, and it was the coolest thing ever.
