There is a particular kind of clarity that can arrive after a difficult chapter. Things that once felt like setbacks can look completely different with enough distance, becoming lessons, turning points or even the beginning of something unexpected.
That perspective is at the centre of AIONOSA’s upcoming EP, IRIS — Goddess of Desire.
The three-piece group — Zilla, Jojo and Sagwa — are introducing a project shaped by real experiences and an appreciation for the changes that inevitably come with life. Rather than focusing solely on where things have gone wrong, IRIS asks what those experiences can teach us and where they might lead next.
Its central philosophy can be summed up in a simple but striking phrase: “turning disappointments into appointments.”
For AIONOSA’s group leader, Zilla, the idea grew out of personal reflection following the COVID-19 period. Life after the pandemic brought a different awareness of time and perspective, encouraging a closer look at the experiences that shape us and the importance of appreciating the present.
Those reflections became part of the foundation for IRIS.
The EP looks at a world that seems to be changing faster than ever. Technology, culture, relationships and everyday life continue to evolve, leaving people to constantly adapt. In the middle of all that movement, AIONOSA are interested in something much simpler: the value of slowing down and noticing the world around us.
That could mean appreciating an ordinary moment, embracing a fresh start or allowing yourself to approach something with the curiosity you had before life became complicated.
In that sense, innocence becomes an important theme throughout the concept of IRIS. For AIONOSA, innocence is not synonymous with weakness. There is strength in remaining open to the world, even after experiencing disappointment, and in maintaining a sense of curiosity when it might be easier to become cynical.
The project is therefore less about escaping the past and more about understanding it.
Every experience can become part of the journey. An ending can create room for a beginning. A disappointment can eventually lead to an opportunity. And something that once seemed to have no purpose can reveal its meaning later.
While Zilla’s experiences provide much of the emotional inspiration behind the EP, IRIS belongs to AIONOSA as a group. Zilla, Jojo and Sagwa bring their individual perspectives together to create a shared artistic identity, turning a personal starting point into a wider story about change and possibility.
There is also a sense of desire within IRIS — not simply as something romantic or material, but as the desire to experience life differently. To start again. To discover something new. To remain curious.
Ultimately, IRIS — Goddess of Desire is about perspective.
AIONOSA are not suggesting that life’s difficult moments should simply be forgotten. Instead, they are exploring what happens when we choose to carry those experiences forward in a different way.
Sometimes the disappointment is not the end of the story.
Sometimes, it is the appointment that leads you somewhere new.
With IRIS, AIONOSA are opening the door to that possibility.
