Out now, the track captures the passion of Scotland supporters while blending Celtic-inspired sounds with electronic pop-rock production, creating a modern anthem made for football fans, singalongs and World Cup excitement.
Behind Rodeo Terrorists is Richard, a 55-year-old English IT manager with a lifelong love of Scotland and a creative background that stretches far beyond the office. Before launching his DIY music project, Richard worked behind the scenes in the entertainment industry, building websites for major pop artists including Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, NSYNC and Steps.
Now, armed with GarageBand, Logic and AI-assisted music production tools, he has created a project that embraces experimentation, DIY creativity and the unpredictable nature of modern music-making. Rather than chasing perfection, Rodeo Terrorists lean into raw ideas, personality and pure entertainment value.
Saltire (Tartan Army) was reportedly written in just 30 minutes during a work break, inspired by Scotland’s football culture, the legendary Tartan Army supporters and classic football anthems from decades past. The result is a catchy, tongue-in-cheek release that feels nostalgic while still sounding fresh and modern.
Musically, the song combines folk-inspired melodies with upbeat electronic production. Richard has described the sound as something like The Waterboys colliding with World in Motion from New Order — a mix of football energy, Celtic atmosphere and synth-driven pop hooks.
Alongside the humour and football banter, the release also carries a more personal meaning. Richard hopes to raise awareness of Motor Neurone Disease and support fundraising efforts for MND Scotland in memory of a close friend who passed away from the disease.
With its fun spirit, memorable chorus and unconventional story, Saltire (Tartan Army) stands out as a unique modern Scottish football anthem that doesn’t take itself too seriously — but still delivers plenty of heart.
