Indie folk and alt-country artist SunSkip—the musical project of singer-songwriter Sean Maljanian—returns with “Sincerely,” a warmly resonant new single premiering in collaboration with Music Crowns and Decent Music PR. Out now on all major streaming platforms, the track pairs tender, lived-in storytelling with a lively honky-tonk pulse, marking a confident step forward in SunSkip’s evolving sound.
Rooted in the intimacy of handwritten letters, “Sincerely” unfolds through the voices of two characters, John and Sue, who exchange notes later in life. Their correspondence is polite, even gentle—but between the lines, a deeper truth takes shape. The song captures the quiet weight of aging, the emotions that linger unspoken, and the resilience required to carry on when vulnerability feels out of reach. It’s a delicate balance of tenderness and honesty that gives the song its staying power.
“Many of the harsh realities that come with getting older aren’t talked about enough in modern music,” Maljanian explains. “A lot of people from John and Sue’s generation grew up at a time when mental health simply wasn’t discussed. They still feel like they ‘shouldn’t complain,’ even when they’re carrying so much underneath. I wanted to give voice to that—to the things we hide even from the people we love.”
Following the release of his EP Smoke and Mirrors, Maljanian set out to shake free from the confines of quiet indie-folk and write something that would move bodies as much as hearts. What started as a modest concept quickly snowballed into a full-throttle folk-rock barn burner—equal parts reflective and riotous.
That energy is palpable in the recording. Working alongside producer Kory Burrel, the sessions embraced a playful, anything-goes approach. Traditional percussion gave way to found sounds—bottles, pans, and even a giant cardboard box—all in service of capturing the raw electricity of a band on the brink of joyful chaos.
“We went completely berserk in the studio,” Maljanian laughs. “We wanted it to feel like a very alive saloon where the band is going absolutely crazy in the best way.”
This spring, SunSkip will take “Sincerely” to stages across New York City, including a filmed live performance with acclaimed video team I Know We Should, known for their work with American Fest, Bluegrass Station, and No Depression. Additional NYC dates will be announced soon.
“Sincerely” stands as a heartfelt reminder that the most powerful stories are often the ones we almost don’t tell—and that sometimes, the best way to face them is together, with the volume turned up just a little louder.
