New artist LIZA debuts with graceful songwriting in ‘Gone September’

Emerging Chicago-born talent LIZA has made her first mark with the single ‘Gone September’. It’s a soul-stirring debut, carrying listeners through the gentleness of folk with a passionate but reserved performance from the artist. Softly cinematic and released via New York label Hood Rock Records, it’s a distinctive introduction, flourishing over five minutes with acoustic fingerpicking, graceful strings.

The timeless and love-soaked ballad is drenched in mysterious nostalgia. The fleeting beauty of a whirlwind romance, the intimacy backed by the expanse of the visuals LIZA paints.

Speaking into how the song was born, “It was August, and I’d left Birdland after singing at Cast Party. It was late as hell, but I was feeling high off life, so I bought myself a daisy. I thought about my life and what I was doing, and then out of nowhere, a stranger asked me what I was doing. Before I knew it, he said, ‘stop thinking and come with me, we’ll go to Coney Island and watch the sunrise…’ and so we did! I found myself with a person I’d never met but felt like I’d always known. Then there was all of this water, only to turn around and see the Wonder Wheel; this is what inspired the song.”

Raised by a Greek father and American mother, LIZA hails from the South Side of Chicago. She has already worked alongside the likes of Ski Beatz, LaKecia Benjamin, Nitty Scott MC, and Hypnotic Brass Ensemble as a vocalist. Already, there is a first full-length outing marked for 2026, so ‘Gone September’ is the start of what promises to be an exciting journey.
