Michael Aldag has unveiled his new EP, Crying in the Club. The project is the culmination of his 2025, the first teaser single ‘Fantasia’ arriving all the way back in January. Aldag’s performance is nothing if not honest, and, backed by the synthesised soundscapes he creates, the five tracks represent a character trapped within relationship nostalgia, unsure whether to break free or succumb to a melancholic fate.
Still, that’s not to say that the retro-tinged textures and punchy drums lack an element of dancefloor catharsis. As the title suggests, the music is fuelled by this dichotomy, a blinding, feverish energy melting into heart-wrenching moments.
Aldag’s attitude is a little more blunt than the spin you can create from pinpointing elements of the sound. On the lead single, he explains, “3minutes is a reference to the length of a song that prevented me from reaching my ex-girlfriend on a club dance floor. Nothing else.”
Despite that, Aldag does tap into themes of longing and regret with strong vocal performances, clean, dynamic production, and colourful instrumentation. The witty moments add to its charm, a distinct awareness of his own self-pity.
So far in his career, Aldag has sold out multiple UK tours, supported the likes of Bastille and Caity Baser, graced festival stages and earned a massive online following alongside his streaming numbers. There’s nothing tongue-in-cheek about the impressiveness of that success.
