Single Review: Tim Camrose – ‘Light in the Dark’

Tim Camrose announces Light in the Dark featuring Collectives Gospel Choir, out September 19, 2025

For fans of Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, and Elton John, UK singer-songwriter Tim Camrose returns with a new single that places social purpose at the center of its craft. Light in the Dark, featuring the Collectives Gospel Choir, will be released on September 19, 2025.

The song’s subject is rooted in Camrose’s former life in medicine. During his years as a surgeon and university professor, he treated homeless young people who had survived violent attacks. Light in the Dark channels those experiences into a statement of dignity and resolve, encapsulated in the lyric: “You don’t want my pity, just a chance to show the world what you can do.” The release is timed in recognition of World Homeless Day, underscoring the track’s commitment to visibility and respect for people facing homelessness.

Light in the Dark first appeared on Camrose’s 2022 debut album, Half of My Life. For this 2025 release, he revisits the composition with newly recorded vocals and an expanded arrangement. The Collectives Gospel Choir adds breadth and emotional resonance, echoing their contribution to Camrose’s earlier track Fly Again. Their harmonies lift the refrain without overpowering the narrative, allowing the song’s message to remain front and center.

Camrose’s artistic trajectory is unconventional. Raised in London and a keen musician in his youth, he set aside songwriting when he left home to study medicine. Across four decades as a surgeon, melodies and lyrics remained a constant private companion. Now retired, he is devoting himself fully to writing, recording, and performing his own material.

Influenced by master storytellers such as Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, and Billy Joel, Camrose writes with a focus on character, place, and endurance. His forthcoming collection, American Stories, reflects long-standing ties with the United States, drawing inspiration from Chicago, New York, San Diego, and Venice Beach, and nodding to his still-unrealised ambition to perform in Nashville.

With Light in the Dark, Tim Camrose presents a work that engages real-world experience with clarity and compassion, using song to advocate for hope as well as recognition.
