Youceff Yunque Kabal, known now as the artist YUS, has been involved in music in some way throughout his whole life. The project opens with “Kettle Beat” which showcases YUS’s beat making skills and his earlier influences in music. The bass has a loud full tone while the synths drone on in the background to build on the tension. As the track progresses, YUS incorporates almost video game like beeps into the sound. The song ends with YUS’s vocals singing to close it out.
“Give Me That” has a Latin-inspired beat incorporating horns and claps throughout. The hook of the track repeats, “and you’ve got to give me that / and you’ve got to give me that.” The song is able to capture a lighthearted and carefree sound.
The final track on the project is “Smoke Rings.” It starts off with a rich acoustic guitar loop with drums. The song has more of a subdued feeling to it compared to the earlier songs on the album. It adds a nice contrast and vulnerability.
Overall, YUS captures a variety of influences and sounds in his seven-song project, each one more interesting than the last. “Hyperspiritual” shows off both YUS’s artistry and his drive.
