In a shrood combination of electronic dance music and pop writing, blantyre have dropped a glittering streaming debut in the shape of Sooner or Later Silver Screen Mix. The production is sharp, efficient, but is not just a journey of the sonics, at its heart the release dives into important themes of women battling modern-day celebrity.
Contextualising the release, Richard von Kalmar explains:
“We were interested in producing a downtempo electronica track using ideas developed for a song with a classic pop song structure. The Silver Screen remix of Sooner or Later was the result and is a 105 BPM electronic piece with haunting vocals, prominent bass and piano lines, layered percussion, big pad sounds, and synths drenched in reverb, delays, and other effects. The remix unfolds with a cinematic quality that prioritises mood over momentum. The track allows its atmosphere and narrative to take the lead.
Lyrically, the song sketches the inner world of a female celebrity in the public eye, navigating the fading echoes of success and recognition – that quiet realisation that something once within reach has begun to slip away. Confidence gradually gives way to uncertainty, despair, and vulnerability. We were interested in capturing a sense of distance between who someone used to be and who they are becoming. It’s about the moments that linger when applause fades, and attention starts to wane.”
Carly Graeme’s vocal is commanding, with keys led via Clifford Cooper, and production from Richard von Kalmar. Commanding chorus trailed by large spanning reverbs for synths and piano lines to come to the fore, above steady rhythms. Made for cranking up the radio on long drive, sunlit raves and Berlin clubrooms, this multifacited track is a glowing debut, and we can’t wait to hear what comes next.
