Sam Foster Smith returns with glowing new single ‘Runaways’

Built for long summer drives and festival crowds, ‘Runaways’ is the sun-soaked indie instant classic from Sam Foster Smith. Channeling The War On Drugs and Future Islands, roaring guitar lines counter singable melodies in this infectious, fresh summer single. Discussing themes of parenthood and passing traits, for better or worse. ‘Runaways’ is a compelling single, living up to the hype lorded upon Sam from the likes of The Amazons, and now manifesting into slots at The Isle Of Wight Festival and a show at The Gibson Garage.

When talking about the themes of ‘Runaways’, Sam explains:

Sometimes I’m just in the mood for a good story. ‘Runaways’ follows a father-and-son outcast. I’ve always observed a certain romance in pariah status, and how—just like glory—it can be inherited. The notion of passing actions down through blood seems ridiculous, and yet we see the ‘sins of the father’ everywhere, often in ourselves. Give it a spin if you want a good yarn!”

Based between London and the West of England, Sam is only two years into his musical journey. Support has come flooding in since his first single, ‘Hotel Room,’ back in 2024. The likes of BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio, Future Hits Radio, and more have queued up to throw light onto Sam Foster Smith’s brand of shimmering indie-pop. Having already played the likes of Ynot, Victorious Festival, sold-out shows, and opened for The Lilacs and The K’s, Sam’s journey thus far seems fast-paced and faultless – with ‘Runaways’ looking like Sam’s most accomplished work yet.
