Music Crowns is proud to premiere VIAA’s incendiary new single “Arson” — a fiery alt-pop anthem that marks the beginning of a bold new era for the rising artist.
Represented by Decent Music PR and supported by an Ohio Arts Council Grant Award (Artists with Disabilities Access Program), VIAA (Mia Coleman) returns with a sound that’s both fearless and freeing. Written and produced by VIAA alongside Mori Einsidler and Troi Irons, and mixed by Bartees Strange, the single blends alt pop, pop punk, emo, and electronic grit into a cathartic, emotionally charged release.
Mastered by Mike Tucci, “Arson” channels the raw urgency of icons like Fefe Dobson, MUNA, Deb Never, and Willow Smith — artists who, like VIAA, blur the lines between vulnerability and power.
“The song is about finally letting go of someone who isn’t good for you,” VIAA explains. “Sometimes, the only way to do that is to burn it all down and start from scratch, so you can find out who you are without that person — and how much better it can be on the other side.”
Fuelled by the chaos and catharsis of letting go, “Arson” draws sonic inspiration from Avril Lavigne’s early-2000s “rock chick” spirit, a surreal childhood memory of VIAA’s hair catching fire in 1997, and even the teen angst of Degrassi: The Next Generation. The result is an anthem that feels both nostalgic and new — bridging the grunge of Smashing Pumpkins and Beabadoobie with VIAA’s sharp pop sensibility.
About VIAA
Born in Germany, raised in Ohio, and based in Los Angeles, VIAA is a genre-defying artist turning pain into pop. Before stepping into her solo spotlight, she cut her teeth as a backing vocalist for Anderson .Paak, Willow Smith, and Doja Cat. Her early releases fused indie pop and R&B with an 80s electronic shimmer — earning her stages with T-Pain, MAX, and Twin Shadow, as well as placements on BET’s Being Mary Jane and a Toyota x UPROXX campaign. Her upcoming EP Feels Good in the Shade (2025) introduces a new, unfiltered chapter — blending pop punk, emo, and electronic edge with radical honesty. As a Black woman in alternative music, VIAA continues to carve out space for authenticity, rage, softness, and joy — crafting anthems for outsiders who are finally ready to set fire to the old and start again.
