@ Little Spiral @ is a Queer, Body Positive, indie artist from Los Angeles, California. @ Little Spiral @, the stage name of singer-songwriter Suzanne Yada, blends her love of indie rock, pop, classical, and roots influences with her background in poetry, media, and the internet to create clever piano pop songs for the digital age.
With an evergrowing Patreon fanbase behind her, @ Little Spiral @ has spent the last three years building an army of demo songs that showcase her raw talents and unique point of view as an LGBTQ+, Body Positive woman. @ Little Spiral @ has just released the single, “Redefining Perfect”, from her forthcoming album, Part-Time Agnostic.
The song begins with a muted, gorgeous piano before Yada’s voice joins in. What struck me first is how “close” the recording feels. The song is recorded and mixed with a haunting intimacy that makes it feel like you are sitting next to @ Little Spiral @ as she sings and plays. A beautiful, round, deep bass tone comes in halfway through the first verse.
Yada’s voice is lower than her obvious influences of Tori Amos and Sarah McLaughlin, which I actually prefer. Her vocal range is a much more accessible Alto that occasionally breaks into lower Soprano range.
“Redefining Perfect” has a great message of self-acceptance.

“I wrote this song with body positivity and LGBTQ+ acceptance in mind, but it’s really for anyone who struggles with who they see in the mirror. We’ve all inherited someone else’s idea of what perfection is, and this song gives us an opportunity to define it for ourselves,” she explains.
If anything, the song could have perhaps benefited from some additional production as the bridge kicks in, to differentiate the sections of the song, and to help it feel like it’s not meandering a bit. Some of her past songs have utilized acoustic guitar to great effect, and I can’t help but feel like it missing here.
Overall all though, this is an incredible offering from a great artist. One who is continuing to cement her imprint on the industry. I am looking forward to the full EP!
