Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Nick Isham has steadily been releasing incredible music over the course of the pandemic. Each collection of the series has included a wide range of styles when it comes to the tracks included on each part. The final part includes tracks for every listener – there are upbeat tracks, vulnerable tracks, etc. – there truly is a track for everyone. However, one track specifically stands out – ‘Better Than I Pictured It.’
On ‘Better Than I Pictured It,’ Nick explains: “I used to be an NCAA quarterback, with plans to play in the NFL. Now, 5 years later, after changing my path to be a singer-songwriter, I sat down with my co-writer, Hannah Rose, and told her about that decision to stop playing football and take on music full time. This song is about that decision process. Moving on from something I was so set on, taking on the crazy career path of a musician, & thinking, as nervous as it can be to start completely new, what if it is better than I pictured it.”
Nick also noted, “This song is really for anyone that is scared of failure, nervous to start something new, has ever fought endlessly with themselves about whether it is worth jumping into whatever it is you want to do because of all of the reasons why not.”
“I am so excited to be releasing this EP – the final part of the ‘a piece of me’ series of EPs that I have been putting out since late 2019. ‘a piece of me pt. 5’ is a collection of six songs that cover different corners of my life – lyrically, musically, sonically, and emotionally. I felt like I was able to capture the more fun and upbeat side of my music/storytelling with songs like ‘Hypnotize,’ ‘Marty McFly’ and ‘Coffee Conversation.’”
Isham states, “From the lyrics and melodies to the production, I wanted these to be fun songs that look into more of that side of me – and that people can turn on when they’re driving with the windows down, turn it up and just have a good time jamming out to! On the other hand, I felt like I went deeper emotionally than I maybe ever have before with ‘Better Than I Pictured It’ and ‘I Miss You and 2 Dollars.’ I really dove in and tried to peel back a layer of myself that I haven’t yet done with any previously released songs. Covering love, heartbreak, and going after one’s dreams, each has a unique insight into my own experiences and thoughts/viewpoints on life. This EP covers a wide range of emotion and storytelling – and I think that’s probably a reflection on who I am – I can be up, I can be down, happy, sad, annoyed, excited, and the list goes on. And I just hope with these songs I can connect with some people out there and help them to know that they’re not alone, there is at least one person who knows what they’re going through/what they’re feeling. And they can turn on one of the songs and hang out with me for those 2 and a half to 3 minutes whenever they want.”
