Pulsating with reverberating guitars, heart-rendering vocals & atmospheric soundscapes that send you out to space British-Vietnamese singer ‘Hongza’ unveils visuals for his latest release ‘Cherry’ which is a rework of iconic Harry Styles track.
Raised within a British Vietnamese family songwriter Hongza has faced struggles within his inner family circle when it comes to choosing music as a pathway. But this has only cemented Hongza’s passion for the arts as he previously fronted Shoegaze band DAZE who shared stages with Larkins, Cassia, Judas & is now on travelling through his own musical journey as a solo artist.
Hongza Says “Harry Styles holds a deer place in my heart, he is my fashion & musical icon. I wanted to do his track justice by creating a coming of age movie dream-pop ballad to cry to. I love that he defies gender norms by wearing what the average ‘man’ wouldn’t. I chose Cherry out of all tracks because I remember the first time listening to it and thinking that it’s so emo!”
Filmed in Tottenham Marshes the video brings a nostalgic element to it with the on-screen grains & the location representing a frozen vacant Hongza. Served as the third beautifully ambient instalment to conclude what has been an enthralling release campaign, the track reminds listeners of sounds of The 1975, Wolf Alice & Jaws. He hints the soundscape is to enter a new phase with a fuller band sound in 2021
