Listen Here – Out Now!
Korean contemporary music pioneer Yajac announces the release of his latest single, ‘her light, unseen‘, set to drop on August 29, 2025. This evocative instrumental work serves as the campaign song for The Exhibition UNSEEN, a groundbreaking art exhibition in New York dedicated to illuminating the resilience and existence of North Korean women.
The Exhibition UNSEEN marks a historic moment as the first New York showcase focused on the human rights of North Korean women, featuring works from 14 international artists, archival materials, and powerful film interviews. The exhibition invites a global human-rights conversation that centers North Korean women’s resilience, opening concrete pathways for solidarity, and support. Yajac’s her light, unseen is its pulse, a musical pledge to amplify their voices so they are seen, remembered, and valued.
In Yajac’s own words, the single is deeply personal: “I once lived blind to the truth. The suffering of North Korean women happened in broad daylight, yet I did not see it. Just as I failed to see my own mother’s quiet sacrifices when I was a child. Now that she is gone, I finally see what I had missed. Through music born from that longing, I want to say to these women: “I’m sorry I didn’t see you.” I want this song, her light, unseen, to let the world know: they exist. And to let them know: we remember. We see. We care. This music is my vow, to help them be heard, and never forgotten.”
Crafted with Grammy and Emmy-winning producers Clark Germain and Matthew Kajcienski of 2 Olives & a Twist, her light, unseen is a masterful instrumental journey. Built on the circle of fifths, the track’s harmony evokes life’s cyclical nature, layered with long, improvisational melodies that trace a metamorphosis from obscurity to recognition. Baroque string instruments lend a pure, emotionally charged tone, while musical suspensions create a dynamic tension and release, mirroring the silent burdens North Korean women have carried. The result is a soundscape that feels both timeless and urgent, inviting listeners into a profound narrative of resilience and hope.
Yajac, a trailblazer since his 1992 debut with Mom in Heaven, Korea’s first contemporary jazz album, continues to redefine musical boundaries. Blending classical, jazz, and pop, his career spans iconic commercial soundtracks for brands like Laneige and Samsung, as well as the acclaimed Time After Time series, which reimagines Korean classics from Arirang to 뽕짝 (Korean trot). His collaborations with jazz luminaries like David Benoit and Jimmy Haslip, and his work on My Flower – 진달내꼿 (Azalea), celebrating Korea’s literary heritage, have cemented his legacy as a cultural innovator.
