Von Venn just dropped their new 11-track album ‘Forgetting the Fall.’
The project blends catchy melodies with honest storytelling. Led by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Gary Cox, the band pulls from a wide range of influences, from Lennon and Bowie to Radiohead, Wilco, and Queens of the Stone Age, creating a sound that’s familiar but still uniquely Von Venn.
The band, Cox, Terry Doyle (keys, synths), Ciara Henry (vocals), and Mark Wogan (drums), first formed in 2022 to bring Cox’s pandemic demos to life. Their 2023 debut album, Jeanie Is Out, earned praise, kickstarting the music project we now know.
Recorded at Soundcaster Studios in Dublin, ‘Forgetting the Fall’ follows a loose emotional arc: early innocence, rising doubt, and finally, a sense of grounded hope.
Gary says the album reflects how the past few years have reshaped the way people see the world. “I reflected upon my own experience from the naïvety of youth (full of confidence that people would always do the right thing and people were true to their word). The experience of life both personally and with respect to world events taught me differently. The challenge is to be realistic but not cynical about how people operate.”
The lead single, ‘Mainstream,’ digs into the growing lack of trust in traditional media and how hard it’s become to separate truth from spin. The track also features a saxophone solo by Rebecca Lane.
‘Forgetting the Fall’ marks an important new chapter for Von Venn, and is a must listen for music fans.
