Liverpool indie-folk specialists The Welcome Addition have returned, triumphantly, with a new EP, titled ‘Many Moons’. This is their first commercial offering in three years and represents an ambitious return, packed with emotion and affection, and a short collection of beautifully crafted songs.
Made up of Calathea, Now Forever, time In Them, and I Hope I Die Before You, the EP explores themes of love, murder, self-sabotage, and mental health struggles. The EP jumps from witty, tongue-in-cheek, and heartfelt sentiment.
Discussing the EP’s single Now Forever, accompanied by a glowing visual, Nik (bassist) explains:
“A mournful tale of self-sabotage. An alt-country take on the classic Motown sound. Uplifting music and melodies juxtaposed with melancholic lyrics dripping with harmonies and stacked vocals. Like Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci covering The Flying Burrito Brothers but with a twist.”
The band has previously left Merseyside for sunnier climes, with their music taking them as far as Rio, São Paulo, Lima, and Milan. This is a testament to the band’s intimate, eclectic songwriting, which comes to the fore in their newest offering.
After a hiatus from their 2022 album Bom Dia Brothers and Sisters, Many Moons fills the gap they’d left behind, and the songwriting has grown from strength to strength.
