Manchester’s The Rolling People are showcasing in full force their new style and sound with the six-track EP Outlier. Throughout it, the band balances ferociousness with careful introspection, making for a bigger instrumental atmosphere and a more weighty thematic base.

As you turn the volume up, it’s easier to hear the refinement at every turn. The band bring the anthemic, the gritty and the charming in one package, leaning further into a live, rock energy, though there’s no shortage of addictive stadium-filling melodies. Precise, but human, raw, but polished, deliberate, but not rigid, when you strip the EP back to the metaphysical, it explains the impact this unique quartet is on track for should they continue in this form.

In their words, “Outlier is our most expansive work yet, addressing meanings and narratives that we previously haven’t explored. We utilised sounds that pushed our creativity forward, working with our producer, Rick McNamara, who really encouraged us to get the best out of each track. The EP is a deeply introspective account of the struggles and emotional challenges that we each face in life. Each song on the EP represents a different emotion that people may think is a vulnerability; however, they are actually normal, with everyone going through them at some point in their lives. The themes span across love, loss, intrusive thoughts, fear and more, which are all relatable to the audience’s own experiences in their life.”

Tipped by tastemakers, headlining Manchester’s O2 Ritz and appearing at The Great Escape, the band has had a steady but consistent rise. With the release of this EP, they’re heading out on live dates across the UK and France.
