Rising singer-songwriter Stephen Mugford is making waves once again, this time with a soul-stirring live rendition of his track “Easy to Love”, lifted from his jazz-infused debut album Palooza Beach. Originally released on September 13, 2024, the studio version introduced listeners to Mugford’s deeply personal songwriting—but the new live version takes things a step further, stripping it all back to expose the emotional core.
The live single is the first of four set to arrive in the shape of an EP this fall, offering fans a more intimate lens into the stories behind Palooza Beach. “‘Easy to Love’ was a chance to capture the less filtered, raw feelings that all of these songs emanate from,” Mugford shares. “I love the produced versions, but these are simpler and more raw expressions of the deep emotions that were at the center of each of them.”
Inspired by a real-life love story, “Easy to Love (Live)” is poised to soundtrack many of its listeners’ most tender moments. Mugford’s warm, acoustic sound nods to his influences — the breezy optimism of Jason Mraz, the lyrical finesse of Paul McCartney, and the unvarnished storytelling of Willie Nelson. The result is a song that shines not despite its simplicity, but because of it.
The release is just the beginning of a broader journey back into Mugford’s world. Two additional live tracks are slated for release in the coming months: “Wild Things”, a heartfelt tribute to his children and a celebration of individuality; and “Runnin”, an introspective piece about aging alongside his wife — remarkably penned in just seven minutes. A video for “Backside of the Moon” will round out the collection, tackling the emotional complexity of parenthood.
The live sessions also bring a fresh sonic twist, with producer John Escobar stepping into a performer’s role on drums and rhythm guitar, and pianist Zahili Gonzalez Zamora adding rich, textural layers to the stripped-down arrangements. Freed from the instrumental load, Mugford settles comfortably into the role he was born for: storyteller.
With a background in poetry and years of musical experience, Mugford’s lyrics cut to the bone with emotional clarity and unguarded honesty. His songs don’t just play — they stay. “Easy to Love (Live)” is a testament to that enduring connection, proving once again that Stephen Mugford is a voice to watch, and more importantly, one to feel.
‘Easy to Love (Live)’ is out now on all streaming platforms.
