Hailing from Brooklyn, R&B newcomer Sidio has dropped a strong first impression, coming in the form of the new single Blue Jeans. As his first foray into the genre, grooving percussion and neat production give Sidio the perfect platform to work from – and his sleek flow is impressive. This ambitious debut is experimental in part, and all-round impressive.
“Blue Jeans is about the tension between wanting to be what everyone expects and knowing it just isn’t you” explains Sidio.
|I hated wearing jeans as a kid, always felt like I was playing a part. That feeling followed me into adulthood: suiting up for a finance job, chasing an image I didn’t actually want. The song is me calling myself out on that. Wanting to belong to something while accepting that I don’t. It’s not a fun thing to look in the face, but sitting with it pushed me toward creating again, and toward a version of myself I’m actually excited about. The wordplay, the synths, the dreamy production, it all flowed pretty naturally from that headspace.”
Having ditched a life in finance, Sidio has returned to his roots, often singing and producing since childhood. Themes of conflict and day-to-day life drama paint Sidio’s storytelling, and Sidio’s story is only getting started.
