School Disco returns with the hypnotic new track ‘Happen’, unveiling a sprawling blend of prog, psychedelia, and krautrock. There’s a masterful way in which the band clouds you in fascination, listening to the dark meditation unfold steadily and with a bewitching intensity.

The music is very much alive, tracked live with few overdubs, capturing something raw, unsure whether it’s calm and pensive or high-octane and riotous. It drifts from eerie to inspiring, fuzzy all over, and utterly relentless.

Songwriter, vocalist and guitarist Rory Lethbridge explains the single, “Happen was the first track written in a new batch of songs we had put together. The bones of it were written and recorded in a day while me and Harry were jamming at Studio Nunn. We wrote and recorded a song specifically for a show we were doing for Andy at Love Thy Neighbour.

School Disco has shared stages with the likes of Wolf Alice, Froth, Lime Garden and has steadily become a bit of a cult phenomenon. With ‘Happen’, they do feel, however, like they’re stepping into a new era, one with excitement behind it. The nearly six-and-a-half-minute work is complete, intentional and impressive.
