Family First Dancehall‘ is the latest release from Montreal-based artist Rooga160 — a heartfelt EP that channels years of passion for dancehall, reggae, and hip-hop into a modern soundscape. Growing up in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Rooga160’s early years were deeply shaped by the vibrant rhythms of dancehall legends like Red Rat, Sean Paul, Beenie Man, and Vybz Kartel, alongside reggae greats such as Bob Marley and Beres Hammond. This EP reflects that lifelong love for the culture and music that curated his artistry, blending those roots with his experiences growing up in Montreal’s Uptown Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood. It’s a project made from the heart, showcasing Rooga160’s unique voice and his mission to make music that resonates across genres and borders.

Raised alongside close collaborators and mentors, Rooga160 began freestyling with family before moving into recording with local producers like Fleaa at Collin Stylex studio. Over time, he’s grown into a versatile artist with three previous EPs under his belt—Inspired By Music From Birth, Chasing My Dreams, and now Family First Dancehall. His name, Rooga, originated from his youth, a nickname that stuck as he carved out his path through hustle and music.

Having opened for artists like Paul Wall, Skeng, and Roney, and performed at events such as Jamaica Day, Canada Day, and Vincy Picnic, Rooga160 has built experience onstage and in the studio. Now, he’s focused on creating hit songs in a broad range of genres, aiming to reach a diverse audience and share his love of music with the world.
