Following on from his previous indie-rock tinged anthems, Rhett Repko unleashes his latest single, ‘Don’t Delay’ – a single filled with colour, melody and that classic Repko-vibrance. The single is the Stateside artist’s third of the year, as he looks to further cement himself as a fast moving star.
Starting with a dazzling synth-tinged melody, ‘Don’t Delay’ is quick to assert itself as a driven, feel-good anthem. The single is one of Repko’s more commercial offerings, highlighting the emphatic diversity of his songwriting and sonic talent. ‘Don’t Delay’ arrives brimming with sing-alongs and refrains that stick around long after the needle has dropped, pushing forward with a sugary, loved-up backbone. Taking cues from the likes of The 1975, the record has an essence of the likes of Blossoms and Wallows, before one final chorus sees the track come to a close.
Speaking about the record, he comments, “When writing ‘Don’t Delay’, I didn’t want to go for a typical Rhett rock song. I pictured it within a very lively concert atmosphere. The kind of song that has a simple beat, but once the band kicks in, that groove keeps rocking until the end. A simple bouncy groove and something fun you can dance to. I came up with the pre-choruses and chorus first while strumming on my Fender Stratocaster. I wasn’t sure what to write for a vocal melody, but being inspired by the fun and carefree nature of the song, I decided to lean into my inspiration of Prince and have a more shouty-styled verse melody. In one take, I just kinda shouted words on and off of the beat to make it more unpredictable but alive sounding.”
