Re:um sways with new single ‘Burn (Me Down)’

London-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Re:um continues to foster a more and more prolific run of singles with his new track ‘Burn (Me Down)’, his thirteenth release this year.

Looping, layered, expressive guitar lines rise through the mix, and ambient textures swell as smooth keys and string vibrato set the scene of low-light soul. It’s laid back but emotive, the vocals following different parts of the arrangement at different moments. The complex, neo-soul drum lines move you faster, and the piano mellows you out. The production feels sophisticated but natural, marrying a digital style with live instrumentation.

In the words of Re:um mastermind Elliot Eriksen, “This track centres around burnout, caused by one’s own unrelenting drive to evolve and improve at the expense of enjoying the journey and being present. Ironically, making this song was contributing to said burnout, but felt worthwhile. Although it feels this way almost every time I toil over every last detail of a track late into many consecutive nights.”

The Re:um project has a reputation for fluid, genre-blending output that resists a singular categorisation. The styles stretch from downtempo beats to disco house and have racked up over fifty million streams and tastemaker support.
