Pleasure Victim return with dark single ‘Sweet Nothings’

Pleasure Victim are back, re-emerging with ‘Sweet Nothings’, lacing their sound with a gothic darkness and a post-pop sensibility, calling back to the likes of New Order and The Cure and setting the tone for their forthcoming album.

Effortlessly ominous from the beginning, but creating that sense of dance around the eerie nature, they have mastered growing from gloomy initial sounds into unexpected radiance. The repetition of the brooding vocal laid against drum machines and the colourful, swirling guitar tones. It nods to its times-gone-by influences, but keeps an eye toward the future at all times, irresistible.

On that upcoming album, Taylor, one half of the duo, shares, “For me, ‘Berlin’ is less about a real place and more about a state of mind. It’s a dream city that anyone can have in their heart. It could be a place you’ve lost, or a place you can only really go to in your imagination. Art can bring these dreams to life, and that’s why I made this album.”

Pleasure Victim is the project of husband and wife Taylor and Alison Hill. Roots in the West Coast, emerging from the industrial club scene, they now base themselves in the Appalachian mountains.
