Montello’s indie instincts on show with ‘Suit & Tie’

Wigan band Montello have found a wonderful indie shimmer with their latest single ‘Suit & Tie’. Breezy guitars decorate the atmosphere from the off; they touch on self-referential themes of creativity and business having an abrasive relationship.

Twinkling arpeggios emerge from lush guitar tones. Beneath, the bassline and drums stay tight and forward-moving. Above, the vocals are pensive, reflective, but have a twang of uplifting optimism sitting behind the less assured lyricism. Bright instrumentation, bouncy arrangements, but a wistful, dreamy and emotional top line performance creates that perfect honest charm modern indie-rock has to offer.

The band explain the new track, “Suit & Tie is a song dedicated to the struggle of creative minds around the world. Since starting this band we’ve seen the peaks and troughs of the music industry, and we all share a burning desire to keep Montello moving forward – none of us want to quit our passion despite the amount of artists and venues struggling in the current climate, none of us want to sit behind a desk instead of doing what we really love, none of us want to die in a suit and a tie.”

Formed in late 2023, but particularly picking up after the release of their debut EP last year, Montello have appeared at The Great Escape, Isle of Wight Festival, Tramlines, and Sound City and sold out Manchester’s Deaf Institute. Enjoying radio support to boot, they’re continuing that momentum into 2026, with this new single and more performances booked in for the Spring and Summer season.
