Berlin-based artist MONKyMAN invites listeners into a deeply heartfelt soundscape with the release of his new album What About Love via Laut & Luise. The record’s luminous lead single ‘Hambelela’, featuring Vaudeni, stands as a stirring centerpiece — a song that bridges continents, emotions, and generations through rhythm and reverence.
Rooted in the artist’s formative years in Namibia, ‘Hambelela’ unfolds around an organic percussive groove and Vaudeni’s radiant vocals sung in Oshiwambo — a language of praise and power. The track is both a personal homage and a universal offering, carrying the warmth of home and the expansiveness of spirit.
Across its eleven tracks, What About Love explores the many forms of connection — self-love, devotion, and community. The album moves fluidly through dreamy vocals, jazzy instrumentals, and Afro-inflected rhythms, creating an atmosphere that feels both grounded and otherworldly. It’s an album that glows with empathy and courage, inviting listeners to find light even in disorientation.
Born in Stuttgart and raised partly in Namibia, MONKyMAN began making beats at just 14 years old, experimenting on Fruity Loops long before he would tour across South Africa, New York, Thailand, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, Norway, Denmark, and Paris. His sound today is a reflection of that journey, shaped by curiosity, gratitude, and the belief that music is a shared creation.
“When making this album”, MONKyMAN shares, “I realized I am just one link in a chain of creations that led to this record being born. My music has been created by all of us, and will forever be there for all of us.”
