Molly Gone Mad confront modern life with funk, soul and optimism on debut album ‘Modern World’

Funk, soul and R&B trio Molly Gone Mad tackle the anxieties of contemporary life while celebrating love, friendship and human connection on their debut album, ‘Modern World’, an ambitious 14-track release recorded at London’s Angel Studios and Abbey Road Studios.

Blending infectious funk grooves, soulful melodies, hip-hop rhythms, heavy guitars and jazz-inspired instrumentation, the album explores the pressures of living in an increasingly uncertain world without losing sight of the experiences that make life worth celebrating.

Written against a backdrop of climate anxiety, technological change, conflict and growing social fragmentation, Modern World acknowledges the challenges facing a generation while offering a more optimistic perspective through music.

“There is no point in hiding from our fears,” the band explain. “We can face them whilst still focusing on joy, human connection, love and honesty. Being a human being is beautiful.”

That philosophy runs throughout the record, which moves between reflective songwriting and dancefloor-ready energy, exploring romance, intimacy, friendship, escapism and the importance of meaningful relationships in an increasingly disconnected society.

Musically, Molly Gone Mad refuse to confine themselves to a single genre. Raised on a combination of funk, soul, jazz and classical music, the trio bring those influences together with psychedelic textures, contemporary R&B and an instinctive approach to songwriting that prioritises musical expression over stylistic boundaries.

The album represents the culmination of a lengthy creative process. Having previously discarded approximately three albums’ worth of material, the band approached Modern World with a renewed sense of direction, establishing a shared creative mission before beginning work on the songs.

Each member initially developed ideas independently, before bringing their demos into the rehearsal room to discover which compositions best captured the chemistry and energy of their live performances.

Recording began at Angel Studios in London in November 2025, before the trio moved to the iconic Abbey Road Studios in February 2026 to complete the project.

Working alongside producer Rocco Spaziani Testa, the band then spent a further six months refining the arrangements and expanding the album’s sonic palette, incorporating additional instrumentation including saxophone and violin.

Beyond the music, Modern World also introduces a broader creative concept that Molly Gone Mad intend to develop across future releases. The album artwork takes the form of a leather-bound book, establishing the first chapter of an evolving visual and musical world.

The release will also be accompanied by a 35-minute documentary exploring the recording and production process, alongside a full-length live performance of the album for YouTube and a series of live shows.

The project arrives as the trio continue to build momentum, having already accumulated more than 200,000 streams and seven million combined social media views. With Modern World, Molly Gone Mad bring those experiences together in their first full-length statement, combining musical ambition with an outlook that refuses to let the pressures of contemporary life overshadow its possibilities.

Rather than offering easy answers to the world’s problems, the trio use their debut to champion the things that remain within reach: love, friendship, movement, laughter and the simple joy of being human.
