Force of nature Marta Vega is back with the spark, lighting new single ‘BYE’, hitting out with a vivid, punchy, unfiltered new anthem. Channelling the self-categorised ‘lesbian grunge soul’, into an immediate, condensed two minutes of raw confidence with teeth bared, the vocals arrive over intense, restless drums, fuzzy guitars and edgy production.

There’s little when it comes to tenderness and reserve. Marta lashes out, her assertive refrain broken up with voicemails, a high-emotion confessional with a clear target.

Marts explains the track, “‘Bye’ was written in just a few hours, and it really captured the emotions I was living through in that moment — the anger, the sense of loss, but also the urge to break free. I actually wrote the lyrics when I was in the bathroom at the studio, just scribbling down what I was feeling. My grandma had just passed away, and it almost felt like a spiritual power was guiding me in the writing that day.

At the time I was listening to a lot of Lil Peep and XXXTentacion, and that definitely influenced the way I delivered the vocals — raw, direct, almost like letting the words spill out. The post-punk drums gave it this restless drive, and together Bye’ felt like unlocking something mysterious that had always been inside me.”

Marta Vega’s unique style has been supported by writers, radio and playlist editorials alike. With the momentum moving fast, she returns to the stage soon, with upcoming shows at 93 Feet East and The Victoria. Add in a growing social media following, and it’s clear she’s stepping onto bigger ground with conviction.
