Marouli unleash brooding new single ‘Bovine Friend’

Led by acclaimed composer Graham McCusker, Manchester-based outfit Marouli are back with their latest single, ‘Bovine Friend’. A collective of stellar musicians, the outfit were formed in 2018 and look to release their forthcoming album ‘Tall Tales from a Distant Uncle Volume 2’ before the year is out.

As the rousing sound of an alarm ding teases the track, a booming, rapturous choir soon cuts through as ‘Bovine Friend’ unveils itself as a groove-laden, rich offering. Featuring more experimental, ambient aspects as instrumentation, ‘Bovine Friend’ pumps a tight, steady groove, alongside brooding, raw melodies. Penned about loss, friendship, and everything in between, the single stands its ground as an authentic, boundary-pushing slice of alternative music-making.

Diving into the release, Graham McCusker, comments, “At first glance, Bovine Friend reads like a quirky farewell addressed to a literal cow, but the tone and imagery is a deeper, metaphorical relationship of a best friend who goes under the name ‘Bovine’. ‘Bovine’ symbolises something slow, docile, and steady – a friend, a partner, or even a part of the narrator’s own past. The opening repetition (‘Hello hello / I know I know’) creates a circular, almost ritualistic greeting that could frame the song as a final conversation…
