Loome brings grit to vulnerable alt-pop on ‘The Shakedown’

Loome is back with ‘The Shakedown’, a sleek and searching new single that teases his sophomore album YOUFORIA with sounds that look inward while keeping an eye on the dancefloor. With it, Loome clearly grows in confidence.

Its distortion-tinted, phasing beat is at the foundation. It grows steadily, bringing in vocal layers and instrumental moments steadily. The synths creep in first, a low-lit and tense attitude. It’s magnetic as it gains momentum, fuzzy guitars cutting through, and the chorus hits with an easy infectiousness when a sea of melodies align to make that perfect, effortless earworm.

Production comes partly courtesy of Jason La Rocca, whose engineering credits span everything from film and television to major video games. As the gritty alt-pop bounds out of the speakers, it’s perhaps a little less outwardly vulnerable, but still carries the same reflective messaging of previous tracks.

Tomas Frankson, the man behind the moniker, shares, “The only rival I have is myself, the light versus the dark. My ambition versus my apathy. My confidence versus my self-sabotage. The Shakedown is all about my battles with myself”

Previous singles from Loome have seen praise from Spotify editorial, awards teams and the music press. The Suffolk artist is unique in sound, but relatable in songwriting. Steadily, we’re seeing the next era of Loome come into focus, and it looks like the spring will bring further excitement.
