Re-emerging over a year after his last completely new release, leo. has released the graceful new single ‘never enough, never fair.’ Leo offers listeners a first glimpse into a forthcoming EP, bringing a refined sonic step forward.
The same heartfelt, delicate acoustic foundations shine like sunlight through a window. From there, Leo’s songwriting is laced with twinkling piano keys, warm, emotive strings and gorgeous vocal layering. The atmosphere is hushed, but the feelings tumble together into what still feels like a mighty climax, however whispered.
The detailed intimacy calls upon themes of self-doubt, the performance echoing the restraint. Charming and bewitching, as the lyrics speak to the heart.
Leo gives an insight, “‘never enough, never fair’ was the first song we worked on when we got back in the studio for this new project. I wrote it in late spring 2024, when I noticed that even though I could have sworn no one wanted the sun to come back more than me, everyone around me still seemed to be having a better time. I was always missing out on the best parts of it all, as if they could only truly happen if I wasn’t around.”
Originally from Portugal and classically trained from an early age, Leo first arrived from his bedroom recording setup in 2018. Since then, a steady run of releases, with many highlights, has built an audience drawn to the openness and calm of his recordings. ‘never enough, never fair’, plays with many of the same ideas as Leo always has, but its quality means this era may be his strongest to date.
