Kazimi Push Their Electronic Jazz Sound Further on New Single ‘Errant Nodes’

The Manchester duo fuse punchy electronic grooves, infectious melodic hooks and intricate jazz musicianship on their most electronic-leaning release to date.

Manchester duo Kazimi just returned with ‘Errant Nodes’, a high-energy new single that brings their distinctive blend of jazz and dance music further onto the dancefloor. Driven by bold synths, pounding rhythms and big melodic hooks, the track marks the duo’s most electronic-leaning release yet, while retaining the adventurous musicianship at the heart of their sound.

Formed by Tom Chapman and Jon Needham, Kazimi have been developing their own take on electronic jazz over the past two years, combining club-ready production with sizzling improvisation, intricate rhythmic shifts and mind-bending odd-time jams. Rather than treating jazz and dance music as separate worlds, the pair bring them together in a sound designed to move both the body and the mind.

‘Errant Nodes’ represents a significant step forward in that approach. Built around a central musical idea that gradually expands into a more elaborate composition, the track moves through contrasting moods and dynamics without losing its sense of direction. The result is a lively, synth-driven piece that balances structural ambition with an immediate dancefloor appeal.

Reflecting on the track’s creation, the duo explain: “This one felt like a real breakthrough for us in our writing process. We took a single idea and just kept pulling more out of it. It’s a lot more compositionally mature than the earlier tunes, and it genuinely felt like an evolution in how we write together.”

They continue: “The track goes through a lot of different moods and dynamics, and the structure’s pretty complex, but there was always this thread tying it back into one piece. That gave us this weird freedom, like we could take the tune absolutely anywhere and it would still tie together.”

That balance between complexity and cohesion is central to Kazimi’s identity. The duo’s earlier releases, ‘Storming Jupiter’ and ‘Mauve Coconut’, both arrived in 2025 with accompanying live videos, introducing a project equally interested in rhythmic experimentation and the physical energy of a performance. While ‘Mauve Coconut’ explores odd-time signatures and shifting rhythmic patterns, ‘Errant Nodes’ pushes further towards a direct, synth-led dancefloor sound.

The pair’s musical backgrounds also inform the project. With more than 20 years of combined experience as members of other bands and creative projects, Chapman and Needham bring a collaborative approach to their writing and production. Their current releases also feature contributions from saxophonist Jimmy Stuttard and keyboardist Liviu Gheorghe, expanding the duo’s palette without diluting its identity.

Manchester has played an important role in shaping that musical outlook. Although Kazimi sit somewhere between the city’s indie-rock circuit, club and DJ culture, and its traditional jazz scene, the duo have drawn on the wealth of musicianship around them. Their training at the Royal Northern College of Music has also helped shape the way they approach composition, performance and rhythmic experimentation.

With influences and points of reference spanning Knower, Daft Punk, The Prodigy, Charli XCX and Evan Marien, Kazimi occupy an exciting space between electronic music’s immediacy and jazz’s appetite for exploration. ‘Errant Nodes’ brings those instincts into sharper focus, offering a track that is as rhythmically ambitious as it is geared towards the dancefloor.

The single also sets the stage for Kazimi’s debut EP, expected in early 2027. The forthcoming release will give the duo an opportunity to present the full breadth of their writing and production, building on the momentum established by their first singles.
