Jenna Kay has unveiled her brand new EP, Smartsass. In six tracks, the Nashville-based artist showcases her sound and personality as the perfect capsule of where she is now. Loud, catchy and vulnerable when the moment calls, the artist absolutely stands out on this new release.
A master of the pop-punk rock drive and the softer, warming ballad, Jenna’s assertive performances are still punchy when tracking glosier pop melodies but are perfect for the noisier, guitar-driven grit. As with all the best artists climbing to the top of their scenes, Jenna can weave together unique strands from across the eras and genre spectrums and hold up something completely her own. A bold voice and unapologetic.
Lyrically, we hear stories of heartbreak, ambition, resilience and the tribulations of becoming yourself. Each narrative is rip-roaring when the lyrics need to be cried out and ready to powerfully stare down at any moment.
Jenna explains, “Smartsass is my attitude in album form, it’s me owning my voice, saying the things I used to keep quiet. It’s confident, sarcastic, emotional, and unapologetically honest. These songs are about growing up, standing your ground, and realising you don’t have to shrink yourself to be liked.”
Originally from St Louis, Kay started performing at five years old and has never looked back. Recently, she’s been signed to Label 22, as their first and only pop artist, reaping the benefits from making the city her own since graduation.
