After a range of diverse singles since 2022, Hey Gorgeous is back with his new album, International Breakthroughs.
Fresh off the back of his latest single, Rocker On A Club Run, this 11-track record celebrates a journey of self-discovery and finding artistry, led by guitars, witty lyricism, and harking back to a time when guitar-led anthems led the world. With a clear sonic palette that draws influence from Dinosaur Jr. and Oasis, this inspirational album came together after a chance rendezvous.
“A few years ago, I traveled to Ostional, Costa Rica, for an art project focused on endangered species. Music was only a fantasy back then. I intended to collect and mold olive ridley turtle tracks on the beach, bring them back to my Montreal studio, and transform them into artworks. I paid for the trip myself and was completely broke. After a week without seeing a single turtle, disappointment slowly set in.
The trip simply was not going to work. On my final night before leaving, I returned to the beach one last time. And there she was. A solitary olive ridley turtle nesting beneath a sky full of stars while the ocean raged and thunder rolled in the distance. After laying her eggs, she slowly made her way back to the sea. Just before disappearing into the waves, she turned and looked at me. It felt as though she spoke without words: “Nice to meet you, fellow human. Everything will be okay with your art, your career, and your life. Put things into perspective, and never let art become anything other than a channel for self-growth and a way to contribute your share to the world. Enjoy this wild journey. I now have to return to mine.”
Stand-out tracks include Go Team, Nut-Free, and the latest single Rocker On A Club Run, and the album is nothing short of a glorious debut – well worth the wait.
