Dublin is revealing yet another incredible band from inside its borders. iNNUENDO, a quartet delivering an alt-rock-meets-art-pop sound, have released their latest single, ‘Rosemary’, which marries a dazzling, opulent theatricality with a retro-tinged indie alternative flair. Sharp and punchy, with an ethereal airiness in the mix, it’s unquestionably unique, but it does seem to build on the broader direction of the UK and Ireland.

‘Rosemary’ begins with playful piano lines and atmospheric drums. Led by a powerful vocal, the sonics are then sprinkled with fuzzy synths and a vivid, distorted guitar riff. There are loads of different sounds at play, which could lead to an unsettling chaos. Instead, though, it leads to this hugely cinematic lift across the just shy of three-minute run-time.

The band add, “‘Rosemary’ was inspired by one of our bandmates’ old piano teachers, who was awful to him. I started noodling around with piano motifs and the song came together almost instantly, expanding once we crafted the cutting synth line after the first chorus – that really cemented the dance-y groove underneath.

Lyrically, it’s about the sting of resentment and disappointment when a close friend turns on you, talks behind your back, and leaves you blindsided. Everyone has experienced that betrayal, and this song is about cutting out those kinds of people and moving into a better space – ‘new world is coming through, the old is booted out with you.’”

Forming in 2022, and releasing their debut EP last year, iNNUENDO have started to form a reputation on the stages of Whelan’s and The Button Factory, as well as a few Irish music press tastemakers.
