Fred Brown has unveiled the title track from his debut EP, ‘Distraction’. The four-minute hazy dream is accompanied by a soft but crisp drum groove and a blurred mix of keys and guitars. The vocals arrive at one with that atmosphere, gliding lazily from moment to moment; they hold a subtle emotional pull, a slow-burning melancholy dose.
It’s warm and unhurried, but never feels distant, as if time is moving just that little bit slower today. There’s a real beauty in it all.
Fred shares a comment, “The song is about seeing myself as a distraction for others around me. In a both positive and negative way. When writing the words this wasn’t clear to me at first, and I then found it to be that entertaining others also distracts myself from bigger things inside. The things I want in life, and being afraid to try my hardest at them.”
With his debut single coming out as recently as March, Brown has received acclaim from plenty of tastemakers and placements on editorial playlists between his solo work and as part of the band automan. Recently, he performed live with Guy Garvey at The Roundhouse in London.
