Flash Poetry releases thought provoking debut album ‘Reality, Now’

In a society overloaded with noise and restless distraction, Flash Poetry cuts through with clarity on his debut album ‘Reality, Now’, out now. Blending hip hop, roots, reggae, psych rock and jazz, Naarm/Melbourne (Australia) poet and freestyle artist Nico Lim delivers a twelve-track exploration of the myths and pressures that define modern life.

“This is a lyrical exploration of humanity’s midlife crisis. It is an antidote to nihilism and a collision of the hyper modern and the ancient,” Nico explains. Warm basslines, mellow grooves and shimmering guitar tones give the record its pulse, creating room for his thoughtful mix of spoken word, rap and poetic reflection.

The album opens with the down-tempo title track ‘Reality, Now’, a meditation on money, technology and the search for meaning. ‘Every Ism is a Wasm’ follows with psychedelic guitars and a blues-rock swing, while ‘The Secret Life of Urban Trees’ channels roots-hop energy into a tribute to nature’s quiet persistence.

Across the centre of the record, the palette widens. ‘From Dawn Till Dark’ leans into swaggering blues, ‘Cracks’ blends floating keys with electronic percussion and ‘Circles’ provides a moment of calm through kaleidoscopic synths and delayed guitars.

The album’s final stretch reveals Flash Poetry’s emotional reach. ‘Make God Great Again’ pairs roots and hip hop to examine modern spirituality, ‘Bright Lights’ slides into late-night funk and ‘Eye for Eye’ confronts the pressure to stay constantly productive. The closing run moves between tenderness, satire and resolve, from the spoken-word ballad ‘All Love Needs’ to the chaotic ‘2043 Shop Like a Billionaire Bloodbath’, before landing on the reflective finale ‘Reality, Now, Pt. 2’.

Thoughtful yet groove driven, ‘Reality, Now’ invites listeners to unwind while staying awake to the world around them.
