Five-piece art-rock outfit Divorce Attorney are stepping into an exciting new era, unveiling a fresh cut ahead of their forthcoming debut EP Always Something. ‘Got Lost’ looks to strike a balance between post-punk and shoegaze, leaving audiences a product with fiery forward momentum and a psychedelic twist.
A blur of arpeggiating synths, bass grooves, drums and guitar flourishes opens the music ahead of a rhythm-heavy first verse with half-spoken vocal performances. They drift among the tight instrumentation, floating in and out as the backdrop rises and falls. As we approach the end of the two-minute lash, that atmosphere drops away from the spotlight before storming forth back to centre stage for a cathartic climax.
Nathan Key, frontman and rhythm guitarist, shares, “‘Got Lost’ was the last song we wrote for the EP, but the first we recorded. I think it’s got that energy that you can only get from a song that you haven’t spent a year deliberating over. It feels urgent.
The whole ethos of this track was to push ourselves into uncharted territory; we wanted to explore how it would sound if we restricted ourselves to that trendy 2:30 runtime. I think we’re all really proud of it”
Touring across the UK, opening for fellow up-and-comers along the way and playing some seriously iconic venues, Divorce Attorney have teed themselves up for great things. The EP will likely arrive highly anticipated.
