Chris Erasmus Releases New Song “We Had It Made”

Chris Erasmus comes in with his third release of 2025 “We Had It Made.” This song of reflection and longing is sure to pull at your heart strings with its beautiful and thoughtful lyricism. Differing from the energetic, bouncy, Country/Americana sound we heard from Erasmus’ previous release “Camden Town,” “We Had It Made” highlights a different side to the multifaceted artist, with traces of soft-rock and indie pop, reminiscent of James Bay.

Stating influences from artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Foy Vance and Chris Stapleton, Chris Erasmus has cultivated a unique sound. His one of a kind life experiences have shaped him as both an individual and a musician. Born and raised in Africa, the jack-of-all-trades has since lived many lives in many countries. Earning his rightful title as a cowboy during his time in Montana, studying in Australia, working in Wildlife Conservation and performing Musical Theater in London, just to name a few. In the midst of pursuing many differing careers, Erasmus has continued to pour into his love of music. His debut song “Fire” hit the Billboard charts showing a promising career ahead.

The writing of “We Had It Made” began during the time Chris spent in Australia with a co-writer Amy who he has since lost touch with. Staying true to his trans-continental nature, the writing of the track was then finished by Erasmus in New York City. When it came time to record, the song was brought to Powerstation in Connecticut where it changed from the uptempo track it originated as and took its current melancholic form.

“A lot of the song came when myself and Scott Jacoby sat in the studio and were playing with the backing vocal options. Suddenly the song changed from up tempo to us discovering this beautiful searching sound” states Erasmus.

The choice to slow down the song made all the difference in captivating the listener and pulling them down memory lane. The slower nature of the track allows space for the lyrics to be a focal point and to really have their moment to shine. “We Had It Made” highlights the raw storytelling talent of Erasmus and is sure to connect with a wide audience. Written in a way that is just specific enough to paint a vivid image, yet still leaves room for the listener to insert themself into the song, “We Had It Made” is the perfect soundtrack to nights spent contemplating the past. Listen to “We Had It Made” by Chris Erasmus here: https://chriserasmus.ffm.to/we-had-it-made
