Chasey The Illest’s EP biography: ‘Cirrus Clouds’

Chasey The illest has unveiled the culmination of the momentum he’s pushed for in the past year. Cirrus Cloud, the new EP, sees the Detroit native write a sonic auto-biography, introspectively embracing the moments that shaped him.

‘Carry Me’, the heart-wrenching single release, is now placed first in the running order. Though its greatest sorrows only last 40 seconds before the beat switch, it’s a poetic delivery. Raw, emboldened, angry, paving the way for a performance style that puts delivery at the centre, even without combing through the lyrics, Chasey shows his emotions in black and white.

From there, each new soulful beat feels all the more poignant. Chasey’s pen is masterful, each listen gives an opportunity to pull a new thought from his musings as the audience. The detail is vivid, and each weighty delivery is underlined with Chasey’s inherent ambition, readiness for success and pursuit of greatness.

He shares, “Cirrus Clouds is a short collection of what I would call my journey to making it ‘big’. Moments of my life, trying to get to the top, wherever that is. Its original purpose was supposed to be a follow-up to my previous EP Afraid of Heights, but now I think Cirrus Clouds just has its own thing.”

Debuting initially in 2015, recent times have been a landmark for Chasey the Illest; tracks like ‘Tweakin’ have shown his abilities at new heights. As his live performances align with his critical acclaim, there is no doubt this artist, unafraid to confront grief, purpose and self-doubt, is on the path to great things.
