The quartet Blue State have unveiled a storming new single ‘Plastic Soul’, continuing to build a space for themselves in the underground of the Irish scene. Garnering tastemaker press and fresh rom support slots for Big Special, the urgency of their shoegaze textures and alternative bite has reached a new point of refinement.
Hazy, reserved guitar quickly burst into life with explosive energy. A rush of catharsis through fuzzy riffs, raspy vocals and a full, driven drum line. This swirling whirlpool of emotive indie sound design ebbs and flows, but ultimately progresses toward a rampant climax. Just when you’ve made it to the top of the mountain, the atmosphere clears, leaving a sense of distance and towering over clear skies.
The band add, “The song is about trying to find your way in life. But when you start to reflect, you realise that there is baggage that you have. The song is about the realisation of that”
Founded over a CD collection, friends Harney and Devine laid the early work of Blue Slate. Later came Isabelle Murphy and Tim Tora. Together, they’ve built a sound that is attracting more fans by the moment, pulling from the likes of The Velvet Underground as much as grunge and post-punk.
