Baxter Dury releases video for ‘Miami’ ahead of new album

Treasured British alt-pop musician, Baxter Dury, has announced the release his fifth album Prince Of Tears, and with it, the video for opening track ‘Miami‘. You might think that the song would be quite American, given its title, but Dury is a Brit through and through, and in this song and video he plays the titular ‘Miami‘, as a geezer who’s “like a shipping tycoon; full of promise and cum.” That is just the first of many colourful and amusing self-aggrandising descriptions relayed through the track. The song oozes by on stylish and slightly gaudy bass and synth-strings, like the smartly attired character he’s presenting. Listen to and watch the video for ‘Miami‘ below.

Speaking about the character of the song ‘Miami’, and the others that will crop up throughout the new album, Dury says “They’re biographical film soundtracks for an imaginary film about myself, which is fictional. The man singing and speaking it all is unreliable; he can’t see the world properly. Its massively delusional, but because of that it’s also emotionally true.

The new album, Prince Of Tears, is due for release on 27th October through Heavenly Recordings.
