THUMPER have released a new single, ‘Bad Mood’. It’s the third release of this year from the Choice Music Prize-nominated six-piece. Their successes have made them a notorious force in Dublin, and ‘Bad Mood’ is no less riotous.

Wasting no time in directly surging noise in the listener’s direction, you have massive guitars playing against the double drum set-up. A haze of fuzziness where you can just make out the brightness of the riffs, it’s got an unexpectedly melodic sensibility, a brutal catharsis with a, dare I say, catchy top line. Viscerally noisy nonetheless, what a fantastic alt-rock slice.

Oisin Furlong Leahy, frontman, shares, “I once worshipped the sun, now I take my cues from a screen. My phone alarm wakes me, and I’m being sold something within seconds. Am I a relic of the past or a victim of the present? Bad Mood weighs the human experience against the black mirror in my pocket. Boiling the mental health conversation down to a glib soundbite. ‘I’m so sorry but you’ve caught me in a bad mood’”

Support for their 2022 debut album, Delusions of Grandeur, helped tag them as one of the most important ones to watch. Their attitude is raw, and they tour relentlessly and internationally, so THUMPER is likely to be a name you hear more often.
