Peering Through the Woods at The Black Deer Festival

Seen as a home away from home by many Americans, The Black Deer Festival is an Americana music festival aiming to bring Americana and country music to the UK shores. Well, Eridge Park in Kent, to be precise. With Bonnie Raitt and The Night Sweats amongst a stellar line-up, we thought it’d be worth checking out what the fuss is all about.

What’s The Black Deer Festival?

Affectionately known as Black Deer, this festival was created by music lovers who wanted to share the music they love with people around the world. No strangers to the music industry, the founders have produced and directed artists including the Eagles and Bob Dylan, himself.

They’ve worked hard to cultivate an event that has a strong community vibe running through it, welcoming all generations who share a love of Americana. Music lovers will experience tasty food and thirst-quenching drinks, get to see some amazing custom-built motorcycles, plus more that will take people back to times gone by.

The music festival itself only runs from the 16th to the 18th of June 2023 and promises to be an event not to be missed. Acts from around the world are performing, including the Australian Teskey Brothers, Canadian singer-songwriter Allison Russell, and newcomers including Robert Vincent and Amythyst Kiah. A musical mixture of the past and present awaits eager fans and festival-goers alike.

Live Events

The Black Deer is a live event that music lovers will undoubtedly flock to. Live music is something a lot of us love to hear, with music being something most of us like to listen to or even play if we’re talented enough. But what is it about live music that we love?

Music does more than communicate a message through words and sound. It can entwine us into a story, just by its melodious notes. When we witness this live being physically present allows us, as fans, to experience an energy that we wouldn’t otherwise experience. In fact, people tend to feel more satiated spending money on an experience than material items, according to science.

It was Henry Wadsworth Longfellow that wrote that “Music is the universal language of mankind” because it’s something we all understand. Perhaps that’s why music features nearly everywhere. For instance, games will use music to show danger, and/or the player either winning or losing. Slots will use music to indicate if a player has extra goes or has won a prize. Online live bingo also uses it to add an extra element to the gameplay. Players look forward to hearing tracks and joining in the singing, and, sometimes, even the bingo callers do themselves.

The Black Deer Festival provides something different to music lovers. It offers a break from the norm, and a step back in time to something different but on today’s terms. People get to experience Americana in all its glory. Although there are stalls for people to browse, music undoubtedly plays a huge part in creating the overall vibe.

Music is something that brings people together, ignoring any divide and generational differences. It’s this community spirit that people unwittingly cultivate just by being caught in the moment.
