London’s International Busking Day Returns This July with Exciting Line-up

International Busking Day has survived the pandemic and will be back in London this year. What’s even more exciting… it’ll be held at the amazing Wembley Park, one of London’s freshest cultural hotspots.

This area is already home to some amazing hubs of entertainment, including Wembley Stadium, The OVO Arena Wembley, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra HQ. So, with the core values of Wembley Park being community, culture, and entertainment, it already has a strong base to go from. But it isn’t going to settle; the area is still improving and developing. International Busking Day will once again be held in this emerging neighbourhood, showing that the people behind Wembley Park are strong champions of not only the well-established artists that appear at their bigger venues, but also grassroots artists who are just starting out. Plus, the festival is free, which makes it even better!

There have been some unfair, negative connotations surrounding the art of busking, with people not perceiving buskers as ‘real’ artists, or viewing them as bottom of the rung. Therefore, it’s great to see that buskers are getting the platform and attention they deserve, because busking has a rich heritage and there are plenty of great artists that started out busking, including the famous 1960s icon Janis Joplin. What’s more, busking is an art form in and of itself. And what can beat the raw energy of intimate, acoustic performances?

Get down to Wembley Park on 16th July 2022 to see over 120 performers across 10 stages, including less established musicians playing alongside some more well-known artists, as well as various street performances from circus arts to magicians. The lineup includes Leeds indie band The Dunwells and British country duo The Shires. Little Stars Circus School will bring their entire school alongside some professional performers to WOW the crowd with a full day of aerial performance.

Listen to some of this year’s performers:

The Shires: British country duo composed of singer-songwriters Ben Earle and Crissie Rhodes.

Gasper Nali: a Malawian musician who lives in Nkhata Bay on the shores of northern Lake Malawi.

Seth Lakeman: an English folk singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, from Devon, who is most often associated with the fiddle and tenor guitar.

Scarlette Fever: an English singer, songwriter, musician and multi-instrumentalist. Born and raised in Hertfordshire, she studied music before signing to Starfisch Records.

The Dunwells: an English rock duo, formed in Leeds in 2009. The group consists of brothers Joseph Dunwell and David Dunwell.
