Song selections: Ziggy Alberts makes us a playlist

24-year-old Ziggy Alberts is a surfer, environmentalist, and singer-songwriter independently creating folk-hewn tunes.

He drops Laps Around the Sun, his debut album, on 9th November through Common Folk records, followed up by a world tour in 2019.

It’s sun-drenched, intimate and poignant – a collection of relatable stories twined with a subtle subtext on the state of the planet.

Ahead of the release of Laps Around the Sun, we asked Ziggy to make a playlist for us.

What’s your ultimate guilty pleasure track?

‘Sex With Me’ by Rihanna, I just can’t help it, its a tune!

What’s your go-to pick me up song?

‘Love Is All I Got’ by Crystal Fighters. It’s really hard not to feel vibrant after blasting that.

Give us a song that you wish you’d written…

I don’t wish very often that I’d written songs that aren’t mine. But I’ll say ‘An Evening I Will Not Forget’ by Dermot Kennedy because its such a raw and emotive story.

You’re commuting with your headphones in. What’s the soundtrack?

Right now, I’d revisit ‘Cherry Wine’ by Hozier.

Name a track from the first album you ever bought…

‘Teenage Dirtbag’ by Wheatus. Bought the hard copy from Big W with Mum.

What’s the best new track you’ve heard lately?

‘Teenage Fantasy’ by Jorja Smith. Digging it.

What’s your go-to karaoke song?

‘Summer Love’ by Justin Timberlake. Anything Justin Timberlake circa early 2000’s.

Which artist has had the most significant impact on your life?

Ben Howard. His Every Kingdom album still gets played on the regular.

Which track of your own are you most proud of?

‘Yu (A Song For Koda)’
. It’s the final track on my new album Laps Around The Sun. I’m most proud of it because I think its unique, mature and honest. You will be able to listen to it everywhere on the 9th of November 2018.
