Next month (August), Helsinki will host it’s annual three-day art and music event, Flow Festival. The urban music festival sees fans from all over the world travelling to the Nordic country to soak up the sun and watch some of the hottest acts around. This year’s lineup is huge, with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Lauryn Hill and Arctic Monkeys headlining. That said, however, the rest of the bill is looking equally as impressive and we strongly recommend you check out the below.
Mura Masa
British DJ, producer and multi-instrumentalist, Mura Masa, will play on day one of the festival at the Lapin Kulta Red Arena. Best known for his shiny skewed pop-music, Masa, real name Alex Crossan, blends intricate synth-work with punchy hip-hop beats. He’s worked with the likes of Desiigner, Charli XCX, A$AP Rocky and Octavian and is sure to kick off the weekend with a bang.
Bonobo
Bonobo is known as one of the pioneering forces in electronic chill-out and has released a number of world-class albums packed with mash-ups of hip-hop, jazz and world music. His last album, Migration, was released last year and hit the top ten in the UK and elsewhere. Bonobo will also be playing the Lapin Kulta Red Arena on Friday. You’d be a fool to miss it.
6lack
6lack (pronounced Black) is a melodic Altantian rapper who’s worked with and performed alongside the likes of The Weeknd, Syd, Raury, Timbaland and Jhene Aiko. His Grammy-nominated album, FREE 6LACK, was released in 2016 and has since gained over 100 million streams online. For all those into their trap, alt-R&B and hip-hop, 6Black’s set on Saturday should not be slept on.
Noname
Noname will be appearing on Saturday at the festival to deliver a set of her no holds barred hip-hop. She’s known best for her upbeat tracks and energetic flow but can weigh in with some hard-hitting cuts. Her last mixtape, Telefone, was released in 2016 to critical acclaim. You can catch Noname at the Seat Black Tent.
Charlotte Gainsbourg
European pop star Charlotte Gainsbourg broke her extensive hiatus by releasing her fourth album, Rest, last autumn. The French polymath has a delicate and touching sound which is known to create an experience that’s often difficult to forget. Her performance at Flow Festival this year will be her first in Finland and will take place at the Lapin Kulta Red Arena on the Saturday.
Tickets for the festival are still available and can be purchased here.
