Following the release of his fourth EP “Four Fires”, we got to speak with the 25-year-old Irish singer-songwriter and bedroom producer from Kid Apollo.
– What was the starting element that made you pursue a career in music?
I was writing songs to myself for a long while, and it finally made sense to start releasing them. After doing that a few times, I realised I’d become interested in doing that for a living. Oops!
– Can you tell us more about your new EP “Four Fires”?
Four Fires is a collection of songs that were written before or during the Summer (bar one – I’ll let you guess which). It’s basically a collection of thoughts and anxieties that were spinning around my head at the time. I realised after it was made that the central theme of fire and losing my head kept cropping up, so I suppose that gives an indication of where I was at mentally!
– What inspires your songs? Are you writing from personal experience?
Sometimes, maybe most times. Most songs I’ve written to date have been from a personal point of view, but I’m developing an interest in telling stories through songs, so things may change going forward!
– What’s your dream venue to play at?
There’s too many to choose from – but I think “Kid Apollo live at Hammersmith Apollo” would suit, no?
– What’s coming in 2023?
More music. Hopefully more live performances. Hopefully a full live band behind me too. And of course, at least one EP. And maybe even plans for what a Kid Apollo album would sound like…
